Schema to represent blood flow in the hear according to Galen. The arrows indicate the direction of flow through the four main valves of the heart. As indicated by the broken arrows, he believed that blood passes deriectly from the right to the left ventricle through the interventricular septum, and the there is some reflux from the left ventricle to the venous artery through the mitral valve.
